According to a survey, about 18% of the cruise travellers get injured and about 69% of them need immediate medical help. In addition to hangovers and sunburns, there are a variety of serious medical conditions that may arise and medical care is available overboard for the travellers.
Some examples of serious exigencies include stroke, traveller’s diarrhoea, respiratory tract infection, broken hip, sprained ankle or even heart attack. Hence cruise travellers are advised to undergo general routine physical examinations and be up-to-date with recommended immunizations before travelling.
In addition, it is important to avail tourist insurance coverageon cruises for evacuation and medical exigencies as sometime, medical helicopter ambulance is needed for disembarking certain passengers in case of diseases that may be life-threatening or communicable in nature.

With the economic downturn at its peak, people are cutting down the duration of the vacation as well as the coverage benefits on the tourist insurance policy in order to save money on insurance coverage premiums that have reached a skyrocketing level in the recent years. This is however not a diligent step considering the fact that the health care costs is on the rise continuously every year as well as medical expenses outside your homeland could be too expensive for you to handle from your personal pocket.
The average claim for health care is increasing every year and this phenomenon is expected to continue for a few years to come due to further expected increase of health care costs. People travelling to Europe should not rely only on EHIC - European Health Insurance Card as this is useful to cover only the basic costs and may not be sufficient for other unforeseen circumstances like medical evacuation. This cannot serve as a replacement for tourist insurance plans which offers more extensive coverage for severe medical exigencies which cannot be handled at a personal level by an average working class citizen.
Hence, every traveller should consider availing insurance coverage for him and the entire family through a tourist insurance plan that would suit the appropriate needs.

Many adventure sports are common in the US, two of the most popular ones being skiing and snowboarding. Winter sport enthusiasts love their time and experience in the snow but unfortunately every year, injuries and accidents are quite common while practising the sport.
More than 40 serious injuries occur during skiing and snowboarding according to the reports released in the year 2007. Skiing and snowboarding related deaths are also not too uncommon. The fatality is found to be more in men than in women.
Accidents may occur due to collision with other sport enthusiasts during the adventure sports session. Most of these causalities can be avoided by limiting the speed, stopping in safe places and following the warning signs. Wearing a good quality helmet is an absolute must while practising these dangerous sports. It not only reduces severity to a great extent, but also protects the head from collision, fall or injuries.
In case of collision, you have to seek immediate medical attention even if you do not exhibit physically visible signs of injury. There is high possibility of internal head injury or bleeding which may be diagnosed at a later point of time when it may be too late to treat or become too serious medically.
In addition, while planning for an adventure sport vacation, every tourist has to adequately buy coverage for adventure sports in order to protect himself from incurring huge expenses due to any injuries, medical treatment or evacuation necessities.
