Holidaymakers are typically advised to purchase an international travel insurance plan during overseas travel. Most of these tourist insurance policies offer coverage for loss of personal belongings, stolen documents, theft of cash / credit or debit cards. This coverage benefit is highly advisable especially when travellers are moving to a foreign land where they may not be aware of the local language and they may need emergency assistance.
However, it has been found that these overseas travellers tend to lie about the loss or theft of their personal belongings and claim for reimbursements. The expenses incurred due to such fraudulent claims have reached skyrocketing figures and have been found out by the agencies.
These agencies have warned that in case the holiday makers are found misusing the coverage claims and they are found out, it would be considered as a serious offence that is punishable by law.
Security measures are being taken to curb such claims and the authorities have been warned about this growing problem. However, the authorities say that many of the claims filed are honest and some of the dishonest claimers can really receive shocking punishments in case they are found to be guilty at a later date. The authorities even have the right to arrest these travellers.
