The Dragon is roaring again. China has emerged as the hotspot for international travel in 2010 as well, and not as a business destination. As a consequence of the increasing business activity in China, it is also attracting a lot of international tourists. However, many of these tourists visit the country without adequate insurance for Chinese tourists.
China tourist insurance covers unplanned medical illnesses and injuries. While most hospitals will not be able to process cashless transactions, there are a few hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong that do accept health insurance from the U.S. In most cases, you will have to get your costs reimbursed through the health insurance company.
Chinese healthcare, while of a high quality in the larger cities, is usually inadequate in rural areas. When traveling, ensure that you carry enough prescription drugs, and your prescription. Also remember that Chinese traffic is among the most dangerous in the world. Do not attempt to drive a vehicle, as any resulting accident will probably not be covered unless you possess a valid Chinese driving license.
Typical tourist insurance plans cover unplanned illnesses and accidents. Hospitalization and outpatient care are all usually covered. Purchasing overseas insurance from a company that has experience in the field will help file and process claims smoother, even if the plan costs a few dollars more.

Very often, seniors traveling to the U.S. have a tough time locating a good U.S. tourist insurance plan for their trips. Many companies do not have adequate protection for seniors, and what should be a relaxing trip around the world quickly turns worry-filled with apprehensions about health.
Many plans, however, feature good coverage for seniors, although the maximum benefit is lower than usual. Most plans feature a $50,000 maximum health benefit for those over 65 years of age. As is the case with short-term plans, pre-existing conditions as defined by the look-back period of the plan are also excluded from coverage.
Group plans such as the Patriot Group Travel Medical insurance plan offer coverage to U.S. visitors who are seniors. If you are over 65, however, your initial period of coverage must begin within 30 days of arrival in the U.S.
This rule is waived if you already have other international travel insurance when you enter the U.S., valid for more than a month after your arrival. Remember that coverage can be renewed even monthly, for a total of up to two years of continuous coverage.

About now, the U.S. weather is clearing up, and plans of visits to the U.S. are being drawn in many homes across the world. Some of these homes will consider U.S. tourist insurance seriously, while others will think that an unnecessary expense. That might well be the difference between having a pleasant and enjoyable trip, and having a bitter experience to bring back home.
Consider that the typical costs of healthcare in the U.S. are among the highest in the world. In this situation, hospitals are not required by law to treat you unless you are able to pay. Unfortunately, this means that if you suffer from a sudden illness that is not life-threatening, you could potentially be refused treatment, until you showed proof of the ability to pay for your medical treatment.
Purchasing insurance for U.S. tourists is not a prerequisite for entry into the U.S. However, if you happen to contract an infection, or even a hairline fracture when in the U.S., your medical bills will soon turn into a nightmare, and so, it is best to be prepared with tourist insurance.
For less than the price of a bagel a day, you will be able to cover yourself against medical problems and accidents. Typical U.S. tourist insurance benefits include inpatient and outpatient care including ambulance services, prescription medication, diagnostic tests, and surgery costs, AD&D, and repatriation of remains.
