When tourists travel to India, they are often overwhelmed by the sea of humanity. Several thinkers and writers have mentioned that it is this constant stream of people in India which overwhelms them. As soon as a person gets off an airport, it is not uncommon to see touts, tour guides, or panhandlers accosting international tourists.

While no one likes to be touched, especially by strange people, it is unfortunately an experience that foreigners are sometimes subject to. The risk of infection also increases. Tourists insurance India becomes a must-have in this situation.

However, there are tips to avoid getting mobbed by panhandlers. One, if possible, visit with a local. Local people can ensure that you are not mobbed. Two, avoid eye contact with whoever is panhandling. Walk away without so much as a glance, if you do not want to give any money.

What ever you do, do not give one person money. You will be swarmed with others wanting a “piece of the action”. Begging is, on paper, illegal in India, although it is never enforced. If you do feel strongly about poverty, donate to one of the bigger organizations. And if you do get ill from constant contact with the local people, you are at risk of infection, and it is best to be covered by tourist medical insurance.
