A recent article in an Indian weekly reported that the number one problem for the country’s nature reserves was tourism. When traveling, always remember that while you may have purchased tourist insurance for your trip as a tourist, nature has no insurance against injuries caused by tourists! These simple tips will help ensure that you leave the spot as you saw it. Especially applicable to nature spots, some of these tips are also applicable for any tourist spot.

First, do not pollute. That includes all kinds of pollution: water, air, noise, you name it. So, do not talk loudly on your mobile phone. Let others enjoy the sights and sounds of the nature reserve. Do not smoke. Let people breathe in the fresh air. Do not consume alcohol or talk loudly to each other.

Also, strive to leave the place exactly as you found it. When traveling, we are sometimes so taken in by nature’s bounty that we consider it our right to take a piece of it back home. We are not entitled to do so. Remember that if every visitor to a beach took back a seashell as a keepsake, beaches would be devoid of shells.

Stay safe. Nature can be soothing and calming, but has her mood swings. In the rainy season and during winters, take adequate precautions. Carry a first aid kit with you if need be. Remember to purchase tourist health insurance if you want your trip to be memorable for the right reasons!
