While planning for a trip overseas, it is important to buy an international tourist insurance policy that provides coverage for medical evacuation also. In case of a fall or a back injury, it is very important to be covered for evacuation; otherwise the cost of transportation to the medical facility where further assistance would be provided would be more than $100,000 which is too expensive for an individual to bear.

Simple falls can result in serious injuries like back bone or hip bone fractures which requires immediate medical attention, surgery and transport to the medical facility. Most of the people assume that the current medical insurance coverage would be sufficient for them. Ideally, one has to check whether only domestic coverage is provided which means the insurance becomes invalid if you travel outside your homeland.

Secondly, even if it is international coverage, one has to check whether only prescription drugs, hospitalization and doctor consultation expenses are only covered, which means evacuation benefits are not provided by the policy.

Without evacuation, safe transportation of the injured to the medical facility is not taken care and the insured has to still make his own arrangements or bear the cost on his own in spite of buying an international tourist insurance policy.
