Tourist insurance plans come in many flavors, and there are quite a few travelers who have learned that what is covered by one plan is not necessarily covered by another. Especially if the traveler is looking for some adventurous fun, it is best to check what activities the insurance for tourists will cover.

For instance, one plan might advertise their travel insurance plan as “very affordable” but when one read the fine print, it might emerge that the plan considers even trekking as dangerous, and excludes it from coverage.

Skiers must especially beware. It is best to call your insurance agent (even if the agent is an online site) to know what exactly is covered. Off-piste skiing is usually excluded from coverage, unless the skier was accompanied with a guide. Skiers may have to purchase additional riders to bring all forms of skiing into the ambit of the plan.

If adventurous sports are not covered, and you plan to participate in some of them, most plans feature additional hazardous sports coverage. Once again, it is best to check with the insurer whether your particular activity is covered by the tourist medical insurance plan.
