Claims filed in the case of trip cancellation due to extreme weather conditions are very tricky. Coverage for hurricanes, storms, civil unrest, flight delays due to bad weather and pandemic outbreak panics typically do not fall under traditional trip cancellation insurance coverage. However, thanks to media coverage and awareness about the reality of such inhabitable conditions, the travel insurance sector has accommodated such exigencies into their packages. Major world events have made the insurance providers to rethink while denying the claims.

Recently, the wave of H1N1 panic which spread across the world sprang a lot of questions about how the insurance providers would cover the insured in case of illnesses in the destination country. In the past, the insurance providers never offered coverage for such outbreaks but now the trend is changing with time.

Another example was providing coverage for trip cancellation during recession in case of supplier going out of business or cancelled meetings. This was also highly accommodated during the recent difficult financial times.

The travel insurance sector has tripled in its growth in the past 8 years. This only shows that more and more customers have been attracted to buying international travel insurance coverage.
